HIGH VOLTAGE LABORATORY
OBJECTIVES AND TASKS
Main tasks of the laboratory are to realize and maintain DC, AC and Impulse high voltage measurement standards at primary level, participate in the intercomparisons to compare its accuracy with other national metrology institutes, disseminate the traceability to the secondary laboratories in Turkey and obtain international traceability of each high voltage measurements made in Turkey .
UME High Voltage Laboratory can realize all AC, DC and Impulse high voltage measurement system calibrations at the laboratory or at the plant system being used. Considering the needs of the country and the industry, special test and measurement system studies and constructions, constituting suitable measurement methods, transfer standard construction designs used for traceability are being made at the laboratory.
Electromechanical industry manufacturers have to test their products according to national, international or military standards. These tests have to be realized in an accredited laboratory that recognized internationally. Standards used in these tests must have international traceability. Additionally, laboratory has performed trainings related to the metrology and special tests on high voltage.

In UME High Voltage Laboratory, it has been performed the high voltage test of electromechanical devices according to the national and international standard of related equipment.
FUTURE PLANS
UME High Voltage Laboratory has constructed the 100 kV AC high voltage divider/standard capacitor of SF6 gas insulated and 100 kV DC resistive high voltage divider due to importance of owing and establishing the reference standards in necessity. And also,
to construct the 200 kV impulse (marx) generator and measurement system,
to become the accredited laboratory about calibration and high voltage test according to the international standards of IEC 62271-100, IEC 62271-102, IEC 62271-200, IEC 60694, IEC 60270, as first step.

Earthing Measurements
In High Voltage Laboratory, it has been performed the high voltage tests and measurements up to 400 kV AC/DC and 1000 kV impulse, and also, the partial discharge, capacitance and tan d measurements according to the related national and international standards. Some equipments being tested are medium voltage metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear, circuit breaker, and current-voltage transformers.
TRACEABILITY
The construction and installation of UME High Voltage Laboratory was completed in 2004. For the present, the traceability chain of the laboratory has been performed by abroad. The main goal of the laboratory is to construct the reference standards for the independence about traceability.
